SOUTH KOREA -- U.S. Veterans visited Camp Mujuk, Marine Corps Installations Pacific and 1st Republic of Korea Marine Division on July 23, 2019.

The veterans were greeted at 1st ROK MARDIV Headquarters, where they were given a brief from the Commanding General of 1st ROK MARDIV, Maj. Gen. Tae Sung Kim. Kim explained updates throughout the base that have occurred within recent years.

After the brief, the veterans were served lunch which consisted of traditional Korean dishes.

“This is a great experience to be able to come out and just meet with the command of 1st ROK MARDIV and have lunch with them,” said Retired U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Charles F. Wiley. “Just coming back to this country and seeing the difference between now and 1952 is tremendous, I’ll always be grateful for the Republic of Korea’s courtesy towards us.”

After lunch, the veterans were able to visit Camp Mujuk and receive a guided tour from the Installations Commander of Camp Mujuk, U.S. Marine Corps Col. Sekau Karega.

“We will never forget about your sacrifices to this country or your dedication to service,” Karega stated. “You will be forever welcomed here at Mujuk, our doors will always remain open to you.”

U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Dominick Phillips, the supply chief at Camp Mujuk, commented on the veteran’s event.

“It’s an honor to even attend something like this,” he said. “You know, they can’t go back and change the past, but they can change the future by sharing their stories and bonding with the Republic of Korea. This relationship changes the lives of so many people, and will continue to do so for many generations to come.”
