28 September 2018

From Staff Sgt. Samuel Northrup

CHAUBATTIA MILITARY STATION, India -- Soldiers of the U.S. Army’s 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, and the Indian army’s 99th Mountain Brigade, trained on cordon and search techniques at Chaubattia Military Station, India, Sept. 25, 2018.

Soldiers watched a demonstration that highlighted the Indian army and U.S. Army cordon and search techniques. This was part of Exercise Yudh Abhyas 18, a bilateral training scenario designed to foster a shared tactical and technical understanding between the partnered military organizations.

“It is important for us to be able to be integrated with the Indian army,” said 2nd Lt. Olivier Duler, a platoon leader with B Company, 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment. “After watching their training, we found share many of the same techniques.”

They have enjoyed the time spent with their Indian counterparts, Duler said. Soldiers have enjoyed learning each other’s equipment and the cultural exchanges.

“In the end, it is important for my Soldiers to come away with a sense of being able to work effectively with the Indian army and a better understanding of the customs of our military partner,” he added.
