Commander, Logistics Group Western Pacific Task Force 73 Changes Command in Singapore

SEMBAWANG, Singapore -- Rear Adm. Joey Tynch relieved Rear Adm. Don Gabrielson as commander, Logistics Group Western Pacific (COMLOG WESTPAC), June 12. Tynch also assumed duties as commander, Task Force 73 and Singapore Area Coordinator.

Tynch assumed his new post after serving as the assistant chief of staff for operations (J3) at the headquarters of NATO's Allied Joint Force Command in Naples, Italy. Gabrielson, who is slated to take command of Carrier Strike Group 11, reflected on his command tour in Singapore.

"It's been an honor and pleasure serving alongside you all," said Gabrielson. "I'm extremely proud of the work we accomplished together with our allies, partners and friends, and the way our team embraced the challenges and opportunities to produce very meaningful results. Your hard work inspired me every day, and I look forward to seeing more great things from this team under Admiral Tynch's capable leadership. Thanks for coming to work!"

Tynch imparted his thoughts on taking command.

"It's an honor for me to take command today of this dynamic team and staff," said Tynch. "I look forward to working with you and appreciate the hard work and dedication of our Sailors, civil service personnel and their families in supporting the fleet and serving our nation overseas. We all wish fair winds, followings seas, and success to Rear Adm. Gabrielson and his family in his next assignment at Carrier Strike Group 11."

Located in Singapore since 1991, COMLOG WESTPAC is the U.S. 7th Fleet's provider of combat-ready logistics, operating government-owned and contracted ships to keep units throughout 7th Fleet armed, fueled and fed. Additionally, Task Force 73 is 7th Fleet's theater security cooperation agent for South and Southeast Asia.

Commander, Logistics Group Western Pacific/Task Force 73 is the executive agent for more than 20 bilateral and multilateral security cooperation exercises with 14 nations in South and Southeast Asia. The command and staff also oversees more than 50 ships and operational naval logistics forces in the Western Pacific and Indian Oceans, forward deployed littoral combat ships, and a Navy region ashore.
