YOKOSUKA, Japan -- Logisticians from Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Fleet Logistics Center (FLC) Yokosuka Site Marianas took part in the MultiSail 2018 bilateral training exercise, Mar. 8-14, in the waters off Apra Harbor and U.S. Naval Base Guam.

The Site Marianas team was part of a large contingent of U.S. Navy and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) personnel participating in the bi-annual training.

Site Marianas logisticians worked side-by-side with their Japanese counterparts to support exercise participants, which included USS Antietam (CG 54), USS Curtis Wilbur (DDG 54), USS Benfold (DDG 65), USS Mustin (DDG 89), JS Fuyuzuki (DD-118), and a number of subsurface and special units.

According to NAVSUP FLC Yokosuka Site Marianas Site Director Cmdr. Frederick Skinner, the Guam team remained synchronized and on point during the six-day exercise.

"Fleet Logistic Center Site Marianas is a force provider and well-positioned to support the fleet with an array of supply chain services," said Skinner. "During these kinds of exercises, it's imperative that we remain in lock-step with other supporting commands to ensure that the ships are well-equipped and there's no disruption to operational schedules."

During MultiSail, Site Marianas also coordinated efforts with Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 15 and Commander, Task Force (CTF) 72. Logisticians from Site Marianas were able to meet all the requirements of the bilateral exercise by providing 500,000 gallons of F-76 fuel, 50 pallets of general stock items, 50 pallets of food provisions, and 20 pallets of ship store material.

"Taking a ship to sea is a team effort and FLC Guam is a vital part of that team," said USS Benfold Commanding Officer Cmdr. L.J. Mitchell. "The FLC team did an outstanding job supporting us in Guam during MultiSail 2018. The preparation for entering port was well executed with all port services ready upon arrival. They did an excellent job of tracking our high priority casualty reports and being flexible to meet last minute requirements."

The MultiSail exercise was designed to create real-world, shared training scenarios that support the bilateral nations in detecting, locating, tracking and engaging units across a wide spectrum and in response to multiple mission areas. The scenarios ranged from security and antisubmarine warfare to air defense, live fire training and more. With a goal of ensuring stability and security throughout the Indo-Asia-Pacific region, the U.S. Navy and JMSDF exercise demonstrated the nations' interoperability, flexibility and joint strength.
