U.S., Philippine Forces Improve Interoperability through Bilateral Training

16 August 2017

From Pacific Air Forces Public Affairs

JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii -- By invitation of the government of the Philippines, U.S. and Philippine armed forces personnel will conduct subject matter expert exchanges (SMEE) at various military installations throughout the Philippines August 16 to 25, 2017.

Approximately 25 U.S. Air Force Airmen will participate in the exchanges that will cover precision guided missile and munitions operations, command and control tactics, and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief response.

The exchange is the fifth iteration of a U.S.-Philippine Air Contingent established by U.S. Pacific Command with the approval of the Philippines and executed by Headquarters Pacific Air Forces. The first U.S.-Philippine Air Contingent occurred in April of 2016.

U.S. Air Force Col. James Shigekane, 13th Expeditionary Air Squadron commander, said the exchanges build upon an already strong relationship the U.S. and Philippines share.

"We welcome the opportunity to strengthen our cooperation and interoperability with our Philippine counterparts," Shigekane said. "These exchanges allow us to share best practices and joint capabilities that helps us bolster our regional security interests and goals."
