U.S.-ROK-Japan Experts Meeting on Cybersecurity of Critical Infrastructure

WASHINGTON -- The United States hosted a trilateral cyber experts meeting on cyber security of critical infrastructure on December 19, 2016 . The meeting included a discussion of cyber trends and threats to critical infrastructure, a scenario-based discussion on responding to malicious cyber activities, and other related issues. The three countries reaffirmed their commitment to advance cooperation on this important security issue. The meeting builds on the efforts of U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, Republic of Korea (ROK) Vice Foreign Minister Lim Sung-nam, and Japanese Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Shinsuke Sugiyama to expand trilateral engagement across a broad spectrum of issues.

Mr. Christopher Painter, Coordinator for Cyber Issues, Department of State, led the U.S. government delegation that included other representatives from the Department of State, Department of Defense, Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Energy, and the National Security Council.

Mr. Lee Kyung-chul, Coordinator for Counter-Terrorism & Cyber Security, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led the delegation from the ROK. He was accompanied by representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Korea National Police Agency, the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office, the Korea Internet & Security Agency, and the National Intelligence Service.

Mr. Atsushi Saito, Director of the Cyber Security Policy Division, Foreign Policy Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led the delegation from Japan. He was accompanied by representatives from the National Center of Incident Readiness and Strategy for Cyber security (NISC), the National Police Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry, and the Ministry of Defense.
