USINDOPACOM Observes Memorial Day

26 May 2025

From U.S. Indo-Pacific Command Public Affairs

HONOLULU — Leaders of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, observe and honor Memorial Day across Oahu, Hawaii, May 25-26, 2025. Memorial Day is a day of national remembrance for those who died while serving in the U.S. military.

Originally known as Decoration Day, it was a time to decorate the graves of service members. Today, it is to honor all those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, a day to reflect on their courage and commitment.

Adm. Samuel J. Paparo, commander of U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, spoke at the 74th Annual Honolulu Mayor’s Memorial Day Ceremony at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific to honor and show gratitude to the fallen, deceased, retired, active, and reserve military members.

Maj. Gen. Christopher K. Faurot, mobilization assistant to the commander of USINDOPACOM, speaks and lays a wreath at the Memorial Day observance at the Waikiki War Memorial Natatorium on May 25, 2025. This annual ceremony honors America’s fallen service members, which was organized by the Friends of the Natatorium.

USINDOPACOM is committed to enhancing stability in the Indo-Pacific region by promoting security cooperation, encouraging peaceful development, responding to contingencies, deterring aggression and, when necessary, prevailing in conflict.
