Guam Senators, Military Leaders Visit Endangered Species at Northwest Field

DEDEDO Guam - Cmdr. Brian Foster, executive officer, Officer in Charge of Construction Marine Corps Marianas, provides a safety brief to senators from the 35th Guam Legislature before a site visit at Northwest Field in Dededo July 12. At the request of Sen. Tina Muna Barnes, speaker of the 35th Guam Legislature, Rear Adm. Shoshana Chatfield, commander, Joint Region Marianas and a team of Navy and Marine Corps environmental professionals led a senatorial visit to the site of the endangered Serianthes nelsonii tree at Northwest Field. The group received a briefing from Marine Corps Activity Guam (MCAG) Environmental Director Al Borja and MCAG Natural Resources Specialist Lauren Gutierrez, and saw firsthand the military's commitment to environmental stewardship in the preservation of the island's ecosystem.
