Sergeant Major (SGM) Castro is from Toto, Guam. He enlisted in the United States Army in June 1998, attended One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and graduated as a 12B, Combat Engineer. He reclassified in 2003 to 25L, Cable Systems Installer Maintainer.
GM Castro has served in positions from Team Leader, Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, Operations Sergeant, Communications Advisor, Plans and Operations NCO, First Sergeant, NCO Academy Deputy Commandant, Senior Communications Chief, Operations SGM, Battalion and Brigade Command Sergeant Major, Chief Signal NCO, and currently, Command Senior Enlisted Leader.
His assignments include Fort Polk, Louisiana; Camp Castle, Korea; Darmstadt, Germany; Fort Gordon, Georgia; Umm Qasr Port, Iraq; Wiesbaden, Germany; Camp Humphreys, Korea; Camp Jackson, Korea; Fort Bliss, Texas; Fort Hood, Texas; Camp Arifjan, Kuwait; Fort Shafter Hawaii and presently Joint Task Force- Micronesia (Guam).
SGM Castro holds a Master of Science degree in Management with a concentration in Organizational Leadership through Excelsior College and a Bachelor of Arts in Transportation and Logistics Management with American Military University.
His military schooling includes all Professional Military Education from Primary Leadership Development Course to the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy (Class 68), Additional Skill Identifiers, Special Qualification Identifiers, and numerous Command Support Program courses. He completed the Battalion and Brigade Pre-Command Course and CSM Development Course.
SGM Castro’s awards and decorations include the Presidential Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Superior Unit Award (1OLC), Legion of Merit (1OLC), Bronze Star Medal (1OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (2OLC), Army Commendation Medal (3OLC), Army Achievement Medal (SOLC), Coast Guard Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal (9), National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal (4CS), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (9), Air Assault Badge, Driver’s Badge-W, and the Signal Corps Regimental Association’s Bronze Order of Mercury.
He is married to the former Jessica Marie Evangelista and they have four children and two grandchildren.
