Brigadier General Burdett K. Thompson, USA

Brigadier General Burdett K. Thompson is presently serving as the Deputy Director for Strategic Planning and Policy (J5), U.S. Pacific Command.  He is a native of North Carolina and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Infantry in August 1984.  BG Thompson most recently served as the 25th Infantry Division Deputy Commanding General for Support

BG Thompson's previous assignments include: rifle platoon leader and executive officer with the 1st Battalion (Mechanized), 17th Infantry Regiment at Camp Casey, Korea; rifle platoon leader and executive officer with 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment at Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia; Assistant S-3 (Operations) for 1st Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, N.C. including Operation Just Cause in Panama; company commander for 1st Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, N.C. including Operations Desert Shield/Storm; aide-de-camp to the commanding general for the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, N.C.; Joint Chiefs of Staff Intern, Western Hemisphere/United Nations Division, J-5, Joint Staff at Washington D.C.; Battle Command Training Program Manager, later systems analyst, Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Training, Combined Arms Center at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; S-3 (Operations) for 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, later chief of plans and exercises, G-3, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Fort Campbell, Kentucky; executive officer 2nd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault ) at Fort Campbell, KY; commander of 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th ID (Light) at Schofield Barracks, HI; Assistant Chief of Staff, G-3 (Operations), 25th ID (Light) at Schofield Barracks, HI; strategic planner, Strategic Planning Division, War on Terrorism Directorate, J-5, Joint Staff at Washington D.C.; commander of 1st Brigade, 25th ID at Fort Wainwright, Alaska and Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq; executive officer to the Under Secretary of the Army, Office of the Under Secretary of the Army at Washington D.C.; Deputy Director for Operations, National Military Command Center, Operations Team Four, J-3, Joint Staff at Washington D.C.; Deputy Commanding General for Support, 25th ID at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.  BG Thompson assumed duties as the Deputy Director for Strategic Planning and Policy on 19 February 2013.

BG Thompson holds a Bachelor of Science in Military Studies from Norwich University, a Masters of Science in Administration from Central Michigan University, a Masters of Military Art and Science from the United States Army Command and General Staff College, and a Masters of Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College.
