CAPT Jones is a career Submarine Officer who earned his commission through the NROTC program at Purdue University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Demonstrating a commitment to technical and financial expertise, he was selected for the Secretary of the Navy’s first cohort, earning an MBA in Financial Management specializing in Energy from the Naval Postgraduate School.

His sea assignments include division officer onboard USS CHICAGO (SSN 721), Engineer Officer onboard USS HOUSTON (SSN 713), Executive Officer on USS KENTUCKY (Gold) (SSBN 737) in Bangor, Washington. While onboard KENTUCKY, the crew was awarded the 2019 COMSUBRON SEVENTEEN Battle “E” and Strategic “S” awards Most recently, he commanded the USS HAWAII (SSN 776) in Pearl Harbor, Hawai’i. As Commanding Officer, he led HAWAII through the completion of a 2.5 year Chief of Naval Operations Depot Modernization Period and their first deployment in over 5 years. His crew was awarded both the 2023 COMSUBPAC Special Category (Shipyard) and 2025 COMBSUBRON ONE Battle “E”.

Ashore, Jones’ assignment include duty on the staffs of Commander Task Force SIX NINE and Commander Destroyer Squadron SIX ZERO/TASK FORCE SIX FIVE in Naples, Italy. During this tour deploying with the Sea Combat Commander for JFCC/JFMCC Odyssey Dawn. He served as the Engineer and Material Officer on the staff of Commander Submarine Development Squadron FIVE. Additionally, he served as the Navy Federal Executive Fellow at the Institute for Defense Analyses, a Federally Funded Research and Development Center in Washington, DC, and similarly worked as the Special Assistant to the Executive Director of Foreign Relations and Public Affairs to the Director Naval Reactors. In March 2026, he reported to Joint Interagency Task Force West on Camp H.M. Smith, HI, where he currently serves as the Chief of Staff.

Jones’ personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy Commendation Medal (four awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy Achievement Medal (two awards), as well as various unit and campaign awards.
