Mobilization Assistant to the Commander, U.S. Indo-Pacific Com

Major General Mark A. Hashimoto, USMCR

Major General Hashimoto was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Stanford University and a Masters of Business Administration from UCLA prior to his commissioning through the Officer Candidate Class Ground program in 1992.

MajGen Hashimoto served on active duty for six years as an infantry officer with 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines and 1st Force Reconnaissance Company, where he deployed with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit as the Force Reconnaissance Platoon Commander before transitioning to the Marine Corps Reserve in August 1998.

From February 2003 until September 2003 he was a platoon commander and operations officer with 4th Force Reconnaissance Company and was mobilized in 2003 in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM I. From September 2003 to August 2007 he was a member of the Individual Mobilization Augmentee (IMA) Detachment at HQ, U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific (MARFORPAC), Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii.

From August 2007 to August 2009 he served as the Commanding Officer of 4th Reconnaissance Battalion, headquartered in San Antonio, TX. He then returned to the MARFORPAC IMA Detachment until assuming duties as Deputy Commander, 23d Marine Regiment, headquartered in San Bruno, CA, from October 2012 to March 2015. After a third tour with the MARFORPAC IMA Detachment he was assigned as the Reserve Deputy Director of the Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF) Staff Training Program, headquartered in Quantico, VA, from September 2017 until his promotion to brigadier general in March 2018. His first assignment as a general officer was as the Deputy Commanding General, MARFORPAC (Mobilization). He then served as the Commanding General, Force Headquarters Group, Marine Forces Reserve, headquartered in New Orleans, LA, from August 2018 to April 2021.

He is a graduate of the USMC Amphibious Warfare School Non-Resident Program, the USMC Command and Staff College Distance Education Program, the Air War College Distance Learning Program, and the Joint Forces Staff College Advanced Joint Professional Military Education program.

As a civilian he has held billets within Headquarters, MARFORPAC since March 2000. He is a member of the Federal Government’s Senior Executive Service and currently serves as MARFORPAC’s Executive Director.
