INCHEON, Republic of Korea (NNS) -- Sailors assigned to Commander, U.S. Naval Forces, Korea (CNFK), received a heroes welcome at the beginning of the 65th annual Incheon Amphibious Landing Operations Commemoration Ceremony, Sept. 12.

An estimated 200 Republic of Korea nationals including former Sailors and Marines visited the CNFK information and photo booth to learn and share stories about the history and current mission of the U.S. Navy in Korea.

"It's been great to showcase the past history and also remind them that we are still here to support and work together," said Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Richard Santos. "I hope they see that we are approachable, friendly and that we appreciate our mutual partnership."

The U.S. and ROK alliance has grown and developed into an enduring partnership that routinely works together throughout the region on land and in the maritime environment. These operations include regular scheduled exercises and continuous community outreach events, which make up the array of photos on display.

"It's been great talking and taking photos with the children and other Koreans stopping by the display," said Santos, "and it's amazing to learn from some of those who served in the Korean War."

Throughout the day, Koreans of all ages stopped in to view the photos, talk with the Sailors and share their own experiences.

"When some of our senior guests stopped by it was interesting to hear them share their stories with their younger family members," said Information Systems Technician 2nd Class Eugene Shepherd. "I was proud when a few talked about the positive impact they felt that we have had here.

Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Korea is the regional commander for the U.S. Navy in the Republic of Korea and provides expertise on naval matters to area military commanders, including the Commander for the United Nations Command, the Combined Forces Command, and Commander, U.S. Forces Korea.
