Military Health System GENESIS Set to Go live for 354th Medical Group

EIELSON AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska -- The 354th Medical Group has transitioned to the Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS and is scheduled to go live on Oct. 31.
MHS GENESIS is intended to be an integrative electronic health record that will provide a location for the MHS to document all patient’s healthcare activities and all care received from the MHS.
The new system comes with improvements on the legacy system such as better continuity with the Veterans Administration, upgraded infrastructure, enhanced access to medical records for beneficiaries, and improved patient safety by creating workflows within the clinic to minimize human error.
“Broadly speaking, MHS GENESIS represents a fundamental upgrade to our electronic health record, that will enable trusted care that Military Health System and those of us in the 354th Medical Group want to provide to our beneficiaries,” said U.S. Air Force Maj. Trevor A. Peterson, the 354th MDG, chief of medical staff.
The transition from the legacy system may come with a few initial challenges for the 354th MDG.
“Once MHS GENESIS goes live, we can expect some road bumps as we navigate how to provide Trusted Care in a new electronic health record,” said Peterson. “There may be an increased wait time as we learn to become more efficient with MHS GENESIS, but we will continue to prioritize urgent issues, so please don’t be afraid to request a same-day appointment.”
Regardless of what system the clinic uses the Eielson medical team will continue delivering reliable care to create a medically fit force and healthy families supporting a full-spectrum of operations from a challenging arctic environment.
“MHS GENESIS will impact almost everything we do. What it won’t change is the commitment that we here at the 354th Medical Group have to providing trusted care, a medically ready force, and a ready medical force,” said Peterson.
