YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan -- Leadership from the 374th Airlift Wing and 5th Air Force participated alongside their Japan Air Self-Defense Force or JASDF (Koku-Jieitai) counterparts in the 10th anniversary of the relocation of the Air Defense Command ( ADC) headquarters to Yokota Air Base, Japan on April 21, 2022.
The ADC headquarters was relocated from Fuchu Air Base on March 26, 2012, in an effort to further strengthen ties and communication for the U.S.-Japan alliance.
“In the recent years, I recognize the growing importance of Yokota Air Base and our personnel squadrons working together,” said JASDF Col. Takashi Izuhara, Operations Support Wing commander. “The face-to-face interaction on a daily basis is imperative as an essential role in the U.S.-Japan alliance.”
The official opening of the JASDF ADC at Yokota was an important historical event, further cementing the ties between the USAF and Koku-Jieitai.
“The 374th Airlift Wing (AW) is extremely proud to host the Air Defense Command Headquarters, Operational Support Wing, and the other JASDF units here,” , said USAF Col. Andrew Campbell, 374th AW commander. “The relationships built between the USAF and the Koku-Jieitai are nothing short of amazing. I am proud of how side-by-side our two air forces deliver unprecedented vigilance in the defense of Japan.”
