PACIFIC OCEAN (July 22, 20140) - Military Sealift Command hospital ship USNS Mercy (T-AH 19) and China's People's Liberation Army (Navy) hospital ship Peace Ark (T-AH 866) transit together during exercise Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2014. This is the first year hospital ships have participated in RIMPAC. Twenty-two nations, 49 ships and six submarines, more than 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC exercise from June 26 to Aug. 1 in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The world's largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity that helps participants foster and sustain the cooperative relationships that are critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world's oceans. RIMPAC 2014 is the 24th exercise in the series that began in 1971. 140722-N-VY375-775

PACANGEL-Tonga Dental Clinic Treats and Educates

NEIAFU, Vava'u  (July 22, 2014) - U.S. Air Force Capt. Jeremy Matis, a dentist, and Royal Australian Air Force Corporal Terri-Anne Dehncke, senior dental assistant-preventative, perform an extraction.  The dental clinic was set up in a local college for the Pacific Angel-Tonga healthcare services outreach. Matis is deployed from Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska and Dehncke is from RAAF Base Richmond, New South Wales. 140722-HQ302-071
