JAKARTA, U.S. Embassy & Consulates in Indonesia -- U.S. Ambassador Sung Y. Kim of the United States Mission to Indonesia announced the arrival of 3.5 million doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine from the United States Government. These are in addition to the 4.5 million doses of Moderna donated by the United States in July.
“To slow this surge, it’s important to work quickly and get as many safe and effective vaccines into people’s arms as soon as possible,” said Ambassador Kim. “The United States is pleased and proud to do our part to help end the COVID-19 pandemic by contributing doses to Indonesia. We will continue to support Indonesia’s vaccine rollout effort and help Indonesia move closer toward a safe reopening of its economy.”
This shipment was delivered through the COVAX Advance Market Commitment (COVAX AMC), a global initiative to support equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines. The United States has committed an historic $4 billion contribution from the American people through Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, for the COVAX AMC. The U.S. contribution supports the purchase and delivery of COVID-19 vaccines for 92 countries, including Indonesia.
Globally, President Biden has also committed to provide 80 million safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines to countries in need, including Indonesia, to help end this pandemic. President Biden’s plan for the 80 million donated doses includes more than 23 million for Asia, an effort that will help keep the region—and Indonesia—safe.
The U.S. Government is also providing assistance for Indonesia’s broader COVID-19 response efforts. To date, the United States has invested $47 million to help Indonesia improve vaccination services, accelerate testing and tracing, share factual information, and improve healthcare facilities capacities and services. The U.S. contribution includes over 1,000 ventilators that are currently in use in 600 hospitals across the country.
