HONOLULU, Hawaii - The 442nd Regimental Combat Team, made up of Japanese-American soldiers, stands in formation at Iolani Palace, Hawaii, prior to a departure for training, March 1943. The month of May is designated as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in the U.S. This monthlong observance celebrates the achievements and contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the U.S. and recognizes the hardships and challenges they endured.
