PEARL HARBOR (June 4, 2016) Rear Adm. Paul Becker, special assistant to the Director of Naval Intelligence, delivers remarks during a Battle of Midway commemoration ceremony and honored the contribution of Naval Intelligence at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. The island of Midway, located a thousand miles northwest of Honolulu, became the focus of the Japanese fleet's effort to stop U.S. resistance, but U.S. intelligence broke the Japanese naval code and anticipated the surprise attack. The Battle of Midway, which took place June 4-7, 1942, was a decisive victory for the U.S. Navy and is regarded as the turning point of the war in the Pacific.
