Japan Self-Defense Force honors injured U.S. Marine

CAMP COURNTEY, OKINAWA, Japan - Japan Self-Defense Force Sgt. Maj. Mitsuru Yasura presents a token of appreciation to the III Marine Expeditionary Force Sergeant Major, Sgt. Maj. Mario Marquez and Marines with the 9th Engineer Support Battalion with gifts including 1,000 cranes to honor Master Sgt. Hector Trujillo at Camp Courtney, Okinawa, Japan, Dec. 20, 2017. Master Sgt. Trujillo was injured Dec. 1, 2017 on the Okinawa Expressway. In Japanese culture, the crafting of 1,000 paper cranes is known as “senbazuru” and is symbolic for peace and healing.
