Alaska Maintenance Airmen, Army Guardsman Help Rescue Two Plane Crash Victims Near Goose Bay Airport

JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska - A Taylorcraft rests where it crashed May 16, 2022, near Goose Bay Airport, Alaska. Good Samaritans, including Alaska Air National Guard Staff Sgt. Steven Borcherding, 176th Maintenance Squadron, U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Kyle Lawrie, 3rd Maintenance Squadron, Alaska Army National Guard Spc. Zach Cherry, 1st Battalion, 207th Aviation Regiment, and Borcherding’s father, Steven Borcherding Sr., helped safely evacuate the aircraft’s two occupants from the beach during a rapidly rising tide.
