USNS Mercy (T-AH 19) Transports Six Injured from Bougainville to Ship for Critical Care

ARAWA, Autonomous Region Of Bougainville, Papua New Guinea (June 30, 2015) - A hospital corpsman and a volunteer with Project Hope look after a patient aboard the hospital ship USNS Mercy (T-AH 19) after a patient transport mission. At the request of the government of Bougainville, Mercy launched one of its helicopters to transport six passengers, including one infant, who had swam ashore following their ship going down off the coast of Carteret Island in Papua New Guinea. The passengers were transported to Mercy and provided medical assistance. According to Navy doctors, all passengers are in good condition. Mercy is in Papua New Guinea as part of Pacific Partnership 2015.

LOTS are military activities that include offshore loading and unloading of ships when fixed port facilities are unavailable or denied due to enemy activities.

CAMP HUMPHREYS, South Korea (June 23, 2015) - Sgt. Balamurali Devarajan, a flight medic with the Company C, 3rd General Support Aviation Battalion, 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade, and Sgt. Scott Lackey, an emergency care noncommissioned officer with the 602nd Aviation Support Battalion, 2nd CAB, use teamwork to crawl under low barbed wire during the 2nd Infantry Division Best Medic Competition at an obstacle course.  Devarajan and Lackey were part of a two-Soldier team hoping for a chance to compete in the 8th U.S. Army Best Medic Competition. The event included day and night land navigation, a written test, and obstacle course, a physical fitness challenge and a buddy run.

U.S. Naval Hospital Ship Arrives in Arawa for Pacific Partnership

ARAWA, Autonomous Region of Bougainville, Papua New Guinea (June 28, 2015) - A team of Navy Seabees and Air Force REDHORSE engineers unload a ship in preparation for construction operations during Pacific Partnership. The team will refurbish and construct two projects for schools in the Arawa area. The hospital ship USNS Mercy (T-AH 19) is currently in Papua New Guinea for its second mission port of Pacific Partnership 2015. Pacific Partnership is in its tenth iteration and is the largest annual multilateral humanitarian assistance and disaster relief preparedness mission conducted in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region. While training for crisis conditions, Pacific Partnership missions to date have provided real world medical care to approximately 270,000 patients and veterinary services to more than 38,000 animals. Critical infrastructure development has been supported in host nations during more than 180 engineering projects.

SOUTH CHINA SEA (June 24, 2015) Sailors refuel an MH-60R Sea Hawk helicopter attached to Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 35 aboard the littoral combat ship USS Fort Worth (LCS 3) during a maneuvering exercise with Philippine navy ships BRP Gregorio del Pilar (PF 15) and BRP Ramon Alcaraz (PF 16) as part of Cooperation Afloat Readiness And Training (CARAT) Philippines 2015. In its 21st year, CARAT is an annual, bilateral exercise series with the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps and the armed forces of nine partner nations.

Innovative System Revolutionizes Northern Edge 2015 Battlespace, Maximizes Training Capability

EIELSON AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska (June 25, 2015)  Live, virtual and constructive (LVC) participants from various U.S. military branches are tracked by the 353rd Combat Training Squadron as assets move into place in preparation for an Exercise Northern Edge scenario. The LVC system enables live participants like this U.S. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon deployed to Alaska to directly engage and interact with virtual aviators operating from home station simulators, and contructive computer-generated forces to provide more robust training scenarios. Northern Edge 2015 is Alaska's premier joint training exercise designed to practice operations, tactics, techniques and procedures as well as enhance interoperability among thousands of Airmen, Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen from active duty, reserve and National Guard units.
