U.S. Donates $175,000 in COVID-19 Relief Supplies to the Government of Fiji

SUVA, Fiji – The United States Ambassador donated over FJD 175,000 worth of locally-sourced COVID-19 relief supplies to the government of Fiji at the Strategic Headquarters for the Republic of Fiji Military Forces.

Ambassador Cella said, “It is a joy to be able to help the people and government of Fiji fight COVID-19. I am also pleased the orders for the donated equipment and supplies supported local businesses, hit hard by this pandemic. We are grateful for Fiji’s transparency and leadership in managing this pandemic and are happy to support the medical and security professionals keeping Fijians safe.”

The donation consisted of personal protective equipment and cleaning supplies including over 1,400 liters Paradise Beverage manufactured hand sanitizer, 1,000 boxes of sanitizing wipes, 9,000 face masks, 500 surgical gowns, and 50,000 pairs of latex gloves. The donation also in-cluded iPads, three large tents, 90 folding chairs, and 20 folding tables, and generators.

These supplies will assist the Ministry of Health and the disciplined forces with managing contact tracing and setting up fever clinics and forward operating bases. All items were purchased local-ly to maximize the economic benefit to Fijian businesses. The donation was funded by the Unit-ed States Indo-Pacific Command’s Overseas Humanitarian, Disaster, and Civic Aid (OHDACA) program with to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
