U.S., Korean Troops Train as Single Force

Smoke rings launched by a South Korean army K200 Infantry Fighting Vehicle burst over a training ground where earlier this month South Korean and U.S. troops practiced working as a single force to assault an objective with ground troops supported by aircraft. The smoke helps hinder the enemy’s view. The training ran July 30 through Aug. 4 at a training range near Pocheon and involved U.S. troops from Company B, 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, part of the 1st Cavalry Division’s 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team. The brigade is on a nine-month rotational tour with the 2nd Infantry Division/ROK-U.S. Combined Division. Their Korean counterparts were from the 137th Mechanized Battalion, 16th Mechanized Brigade, 8th Infantry Division.

The mission of the Great Green Fleet is to demonstrate how energy efficient systems and procedures, and the use of alternative energy contribute to combat capability, resiliency and flexibility in the operational environment.

Pacific Partnership 2016 Completes Malaysia Mission

During the symposium, Malaysian Army service members and Pacific Partnership 2016 personnel discussed mental health issues related to combat deployment, cardiology topics relative to operational platforms within diving, and Malaysian Armed Forces experiences with rapid medical response. This is the first time Mercy and Pacific Partnership have visited Malaysia. During the mission stop partner nations are working side-by-side with local military and civilian organizations in a search and rescue exercise, civil engineering projects, community relation events and subject matter expert exchanges.

Marines, already in mission oriented protective posture gear, were evaluated on their ability to effectively detect, report, respond and operate in a simulated CBRN environment. When given the signal “gas, gas, gas,” Marines scrambled to don their M50 Joint Service General Purpose Masks before returning to work as if everything was normal. Conducting this training helps Marines refresh their tactical skill sets specific to CBRN response, maintain situational readiness and ensures the safety of personnel.
