Chief of Staff, Joint Interagency Task Force West (JIATF-West)

CAPTAIN Edward J. Eder, U.S. Navy

Captain Eder is from Washington, D.C. and 1990 graduate of North Carolina State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology (Human Resources Development) and commissioned through the NROTC College Program.  He also holds a 2009 Master’s degree in National Resource Strategy with focus on the Transportation Industry, Supply Chain Management and Northeast Asia regional security studies through the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, National Defense University, Fort McNair, Washington, D.C.  He has been a Surface Warfare Officer during his professional career, holding Regular and Reserve commissions in the Active, Selected Reserve, and Full Time Support communities.

Assignments as sea have included Commanding Officer in USS PAUL HAMILTON (DDG 60), Pearl Harbor, HI; Assistant Operations Officer (N3A) and Acting Operations Officer (N3) for EXPEDITIONARY STRIKE GROUP ONE (ESG 1), San Diego, CA; Executive Officer in USS CURTIS WILBUR (DDG 54), Yokosuka, Japan, USS DEFENDER (MCM 2), and USS BLACK HAWK (MHC 58), Ingleside, TX; Engineer Officer in USS BLACK HAWK; CIC Officer and Training Officer in USS SPRUANCE (DD 963), Mayport, FL; and Communications Officer and Electrical Officer in USS BOWEN (FF/FFT 1079), New York City, NY.

Ashore tours have included Officer-in-Charge, U.S. NAVAL FORCES CENTRAL COMMAND FORWARD HEADQUARTERS, Afghanistan and Qatar; Assistant Chief of Staff for Manpower and Personnel (N1) on the staff of COMMANDER, NAVAL SURFACE FORCE ATLANTIC, Norfolk, VA; Branch Head for Surface Warfare Weapons (N96C1), and Strategy & Alignment Branch Head (N861) within the Surface Warfare Directorate on the Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV) staff, Washington, D.C.; Full Time Support (FTS) Surface Detailing and Placement Officer (PERS 4417D) on the staff of COMMANDER, NAVAL PERSONNEL COMMAND, Millington, TN; and Fielding Director for JOINT CREW COMPOSITE SQUADRON ONE (JCCS 1), Iraq.  He also held various Selected Reserve billets while on Inactive Duty from 1994-1996.

Military decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star with gold star, Meritorious Service Medal with three gold stars, and other personal, unit and campaign awards.
